Petroleum Division: Pakistan has 'Sufficient Stocks'
Yesterday, On Sunday, the Ministry of Energy's Petroleum Department
said that there is no need for people to buy panic from petroleum products
because Pakistan has "sufficient stock."
The statement was issued after reports speculating that the
country would have a shortage of fuel reserves.
The Petroleum Department pointed to the increase in sales
volumes on May 1 and 2 "due to the significant price reductions of
polyurethane that petrol pumps [Petroleum Oil lubricants] did not purchase" from
Oil Marketing Companies (OMC).
"However, there is sufficient stock of gasoline (285,000 metric tons) and diesel (350,000 metric tons) available to meet the country's request for the next 15 days," a statement said on Twitter.
"Moreover, two PSO vessels carrying about 50,000 metric tons and 55,000 metric tons of petrol and diesel respectively docked at Kamari and Qasim Port."
This means that the state-owned Pakistan Petroleum Company
has two ships - carrying 50,000 metric tons and 55,000 metric tons of gasoline
and diesel, respectively - ready for distribution.
"Therefore, the general public does not need to indulge in the purchase as there is sufficient stock of petroleum products in the country," the ministry said in its statement.
It also indicated that it "works around the clock to
facilitate the public through dedicated teams to ensure the supply and
availability of gas and oil" in Pakistan.
