Flight Carrying 90 Passenger’s
On Friday, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft
carrying 90 passengers and eight crew members crashed into a residential area
near Karachi airport. The fate of the people was not immediately known.
Abdullah Hafeez, PIA spokesperson, said that flight PK 8303
from Lahore was about to land in Karachi when it crashed in the Jinnah Garden
area, Dawn reported.
Social media images show smoke coming from the accident
site. Ambulances and rescuers have been deployed to assist residents.
Several houses were reportedly damaged in the area where the
plane crashed.
A statement from the Pakistani Army Inter-Service Public
Relations Branch (ISPR) said that the Army Rapid Reaction Force and the Sindh
Pakistan Rangers had arrived to conduct rescue and relief operations alongside
the civil administration.
The Minister of Health and People's Welfare declared an
emergency in all major hospitals in Karachi after the incident, said Meeran
Yousuf, media coordinator for the Minister of Health in Sindh.
