Prime Minister Imran Khan: Reiterates Commitment to Improve Living Conditions of Labours
Prime Minister Imran Khan has declared his government's
commitment to improving the working conditions and lives of workers and to
improve their well-being by providing them with better housing, education and medical
coverage for themselves and their families.
"The government aims to develop automated and
integrated systems for workers' welfare institutions to ensure transparency and
reduce delay in providing workers with relief," the prime minister said in
his message on the occasion of International Labour Day on May 1.
Prime Minister Imran said that May 1, International Labour
Day, reminds us of the sacrifices of workers who have sacrificed their lives
for their rights. Today it symbolizes the sanctity and dignity of work, while at
the same time recognizing the importance of workers to the country's economic
growth.
He said that our religion affirms the principles of social
justice and respect for the rights of people. Our Holy Prophet Muhammad (may
God bless him and grant him peace) worked himself on occasions including the
Battle of the Trench to show respect for the work. Respect for hard work and
recognition of workers' rights are very important in the progress process.
Prime Minister Imran said the spread of COVID-19 in the country
has serious implications not only for the health of the population but also
brought the direct impact of the shutdown of the industrial facility and
factories and made workers more vulnerable than before.
He also said that daily wage workers were the ones most
affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, so the government announced a fiscal
stimulus package and set aside a sum of Rs. 200 billion for workers and daily
bets.
He added: "Taking into account the requirements of the labor market, the current government has embarked on vocational training and skills development programs to enable workers to obtain their due share in labor markets inside and outside the country."
Prime Minister Imran said that the role of the worker is
central to the economic development of any country and that our government is
committed to ensuring that the benefits of economic progress translate into
prosperity for all segments of the population, including workers. May God help
us do our best for the prosperity of our workers and our nation.
