Delhi, Prepare To Pay 70% More For This Alcohol Bottle.
Alcohol will now cost more in the national capital starting
Tuesday. The authorities decided to impose a special "Corona Fee" of
70 percent on the minimum retail price (MRP) for alcohol in Delhi. The decision
was announced on Monday and will be implemented from May 5 onwards.
Delhi Police will allow liquor stores in the national
capital to remain open from 9 AM until 6:30 PM from Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday, 150 state-run liquor stores opened in
Delhi after a 40-day gap. However, reports of huge crowds queuing outside
liquor stores with no regard whatsoever for social distraction or precautionary
measures, prompted the authorities to withdraw permission. As a result, liquor
stores in the four districts of Delhi were asked to close the store.
The order was issued late Monday night within the scope of
powers vested under subsection (1) of Section 81 of the Delhi Excise Act, 2009
(Delhi Act Law 10 of 2010). The order was issued entitled "Delhi Rules
(Amendment), 2020". This was signed by Deputy Finance Minister (Sunil
Segal).
The amendment was made in Rule 154 of the Delhi Excise
Rules. According to the request, the tax will be applied as follows: "70%
of the maximum retail price for all categories of alcoholic beverages sold
through retailers for building consumption."
