Cycle Race Cancelled Due to Coronavirus
The Pakistan Cycling Federation said on Tuesday that the
third edition of the International Tour de Tour "Khongirap" was
canceled due to the global coronavirus.
"This event was scheduled to be held from June 18 to 21, 2020 in cooperation with the Gilgit government in Tastan,"
Syed Azhar Ali Shah, President of Pakistan Cycling
Federation said to APP.
According to Shah, several foreign teams as well as major
national athletes have been appointed to participate in the race.
He said: "Khunjerab tour will be held only next year if conditions improve."
He said that since the UCI had canceled all of its events
due to the prevailing situation, caused by the coronavirus, the involvement of
international teams had become questionable in Tour de Khunjerab.
He said, "This led the Gilgit government to Alastistan and Pakistan Cycling Federation to take a joint decision to cancel the event."
