Seasons in Azerbaijan Time to Visit

Reasons to Visit Year-Round

From skiing in the winter to festivals in the fall, to Nowruz in the spring, and feeling the Caspian vibe in the summer, there are good reasons to visit Azerbaijan all year round. Here's a quick guide to what to expect in each season.

Winter

Azerbaijan winter season

Holiday trips or New Year's celebrations are perfect during these winter months.  From the beginning of December, festive joy invades the Fountains Square of Baku. Although snow is rare in Baku, the tall Christmas trees and markets help put everyone in the Christmas mood. For those who love cold peaks, we cannot recommend Shahdag and Tufandag ski resorts highly enough. Snowsports enthusiasts are welcome from December to the end of March, and you can choose from the variety of hotels at each resort depending on how you want to kick off the holiday season: snuggled up with your family or in lover adventure with your loved one.

Spring

Azerbaijan Spring season

Spring in Azerbaijan is a special time as it is the time when nature wakes up from its winter hibernation. Moreover, this is when we celebrate our favorite Azerbaijani holiday - Novruz - a celebration of spring and the arrival of the New Year. All Azerbaijanis participate in this traditional holiday with their customs and rituals which provide the perfect opportunity to experience Azerbaijani culture and traditions at their best. You will be welcome not only to watch but also to join in the celebrations! Occupying the small space between spring and summer, May is the perfect time to get out and explore the many historical monuments and natural beauties of Azerbaijan. Visit places like Goygol and Maralgol lakes near Ganja and the ancient cities of Sheki and Gabala which will all delight you with their beauty. For those of you interested in ecotourism, the Hirkan National Park is an excellent choice, especially this time of year.

Summer

Azerbaijan Summer season

The period between the beginning of June and the end of August is the hottest and sunniest period in Azerbaijan. Summer in Baku is the perfect remedy for those who crave respite from a long cold winter, especially if you paint your trip with the exciting colors of sunsets over the Absheron. The Baku Peninsula is lined with long beaches with everything you need for a great summer vacation. The resorts have been built with excellent leisure facilities exclusively for your comfort. Moreover, this is the perfect time to sample Azerbaijani food and wine and hunt for cultural and natural treasures in the countryside. Summer is also the time for events and festivals. Experience big events like the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the Zhara International Music Festival or check out smaller folk festivals like the Festival of Nomadic Culture in Gadabay - a great place to sample traditional cuisine and chat with locals!

Autumn

Azerbaijan Autumn season

With cooler temperatures but still plenty of sunshine, it's a great season for long mountain walks, visiting national parks, and enjoying exclusive spa breaks. Autumn in Baku is perfect for walking around the city, but you can always venture far into the Caucasus Mountains. It is also the period of the annual harvest, so why not take a trip to the vineyards of Gabala, Ismayilli, Shamakhi, or Goygol? Along with trying all the delicious local wines, you might also be invited to participate in grape picking. November is an excellent month to slowly admire the beautiful colors of the Caucasus. Dress warmly and venture into scenic forests and lakes.
